workshop LIS diretto dall’interprete Cesare Benedetti
22 – 25 SEPTEMBER 2023 | ITALY, FORMER CONVENT OF THE ANNUNCIATA
LIS Workshop directed by interpreter Cesare Benedetti
The workshop focused on bringing the point of view of hearing and able-bodied participants towards that of the Deaf person, through exercises and practices of analysis and use of the eyes and hands.
The topics covered were sign language (basic grammar structures and vocabulary), Deaf culture (pathological medical point of view and cultural semiotic point of view), more visual and movement-related alternative communication strategies.
The group exercises performed were articulated through various improvisations with the aim of stimulating body awareness to find new forms of expression more usable and accessible to the target audience, i.e. Deaf people.
The results obtained were a greater awareness of one’s own expressive tools, in particular the body and movement, and the extemporaneous and improvised use of new communication channels and strategies.
To complete the LIS workshop, the artistic director of Teatro dei Navigli, as well as Master of Comedy, Luca Cairati, held a Commedia dell’Arte lesson. The mission was to integrate the already typical gestures inherent in Commedia dell’Arte with communication strategies more related to movement and therefore more accessible to the Deaf community.
